SAP Business One FP 2608 AI Features: Ask AI and AI Query Generation

SAP released Feature Package 2608 for SAP Business One 10.0 in August 2026, and it is the first feature package to put generative AI directly inside the product’s own workflows rather than alongside them. Two features carry that change: Ask AI in the Web Client, and AI-powered generation of User-Defined Queries.

TEKROI has implemented SAP Business One since 2005 — 20+ years of SAP experience, 350+ implementations across 32 industries and 30 countries, as an SAP PartnerEdge — Sell & Service partner. We have spent the last two years building AI on top of SAP Business One, so this release is one we have been waiting for.

This post covers what the two features do, where they help, and — honestly — where they stop.

What’s New: AI in SAP Business One FP 2608

Both new AI features live in the Web Client, which is where SAP has been concentrating its development effort for several releases now. That placement matters: it tells you where SAP expects people to be working.

The first, Ask AI, is contextual assistance. It sits with the business document you have open and answers questions about it. The second is query generation: you describe the data you want in ordinary language, and SAP Business One drafts the User-Defined Query rather than making you write the SQL yourself.

Neither feature is a chatbot bolted onto a menu. Both are placed where a specific piece of work happens, which is a more useful design than a general assistant that has to be told everything from scratch each time.

Ask AI in the Web Client

Ask AI answers questions about the document a user is currently viewing. That context is the whole point. You are not describing a sales order to the assistant before you can ask about it — the assistant already knows which order you mean, because it is the one on your screen.

Alongside answering questions, it surfaces insights and recommendations related to that document, and it supports reusable AI templates so that a question worth asking once can be asked the same way every time without being retyped.

How Ask AI works day to day

Consider an open sales order that has been sitting longer than it should. Rather than opening a second window to check the customer, or asking a colleague who knows the account, the person looking at the order can ask about it directly — what the customer’s recent ordering pattern looks like, whether anything about this order is unusual against that pattern.

Or take payment behaviour. A finance user reviewing a customer’s document can ask about how that customer has paid historically instead of pulling a separate ageing report and reading across it. The question is asked where the decision is being made, which is usually the difference between a check that happens and a check that gets skipped.

The reusable templates matter more than they first appear. Most businesses have three or four questions that genuinely drive decisions, and those questions get asked badly and inconsistently when everyone phrases them their own way. A template turns a good question into a repeatable one.

AI-Powered User-Defined Query Generation

User-Defined Queries have always been one of SAP Business One’s most useful features and one of its least accessible. The data is there, the query engine is there, and the barrier is that someone has to write SQL.

FP 2608 removes that barrier for a large group of users. You describe the result you want in plain language, and the system generates the User-Defined Query. The feature connects to SAP’s Generative AI Hub, which is where SAP centralises the model access behind its AI capabilities.

The people this helps are not the developers. They are the operations manager who knows exactly which slice of data would answer their question and has never had a way to get it without raising a request. Reducing that round trip from days to minutes changes which questions get asked at all — and questions nobody bothers to ask are where most ERP value quietly leaks away.

A sensible caution: a generated query still deserves a look before it becomes a standing report. Ask for something you can verify the first few times, exactly as you would with a query somebody else wrote.

What SAP’s Built-In AI Covers — and Where TEKAI Goes Further

It is worth being straight about the boundary, because the two things are often conflated.

SAP’s FP 2608 AI is in-product assistance. It helps you while you are inside the SAP Business One Web Client, working on a document. That is genuinely useful, and for a user already in the client it is the shortest path to an answer.

What it does not do is come to where your team already works. Most people asking questions about ERP data are not sitting in the ERP. They are in a chat window, a spreadsheet, an email thread, or a meeting.

That is the gap TEKAI fills. TEKAI is a native MCP server for SAP Business One: it exposes your live data — SQL or HANA — to the AI tools teams already use. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Microsoft Copilot all connect through the same endpoint. From there a team can query the system, transact against it, and automate work in it, using whichever assistant they had open anyway.

TEKAI is featured in SAP’s global AI Partner Innovations playbook as one of four generative AI solutions for SAP Business One worldwide — and the only one from India.

The practical difference shows up in what each is for. Ask AI is the right tool when you are already looking at the document. TEKAI is the right tool when the question arrives somewhere else and the answer needs to come back without anyone opening the client. We have written up what that looks like in practice on Claude and on ChatGPT, and we published a full run where Grok Bot completed a procurement cycle end to end without anyone touching SAP.

These are complements, not competitors. A business on FP 2608 with TEKAI connected has assistance inside the client and access outside it, and the two do not interfere.

How to Get FP 2608

FP 2608 arrives as a feature package upgrade to SAP Business One 10.0. As with any feature package, the work is in the planning rather than the installation: confirming your version and database, checking add-ons and customisations against the new package, and scheduling the downtime.

TEKROI handles that upgrade path as an SAP PartnerEdge — Sell & Service partner, along with enabling the AI features once you are on the release. If you are running SAP Business One anywhere in India, our SAP Business One partner in India page sets out how we work.

For the complete picture of what else arrived in this release — the Web Client reports, banking, sales, inventory, MRP, accounting, payments, projects and HR changes — see our complete guide to SAP Business One FP 2608.

Frequently Asked Questions

What AI features are in SAP Business One FP 2608?

Two. Ask AI brings contextual questions, insights and reusable AI templates into the Web Client, and AI-powered User-Defined Query generation turns a plain-language request into a query without the user writing SQL. Both run in the Web Client.

What is Ask AI in SAP B1?

Ask AI is an assistant inside the SAP Business One Web Client that answers questions about the business document you are currently looking at. Because it takes the open document as its context, you ask about this order or this customer rather than describing them first.

Can SAP Business One generate SQL queries with AI?

Yes. FP 2608 adds AI-powered generation of User-Defined Queries, so you describe the result you want in plain language and SAP Business One drafts the query. It is aimed at users who know their data but do not write SQL.

What is the difference between SAP’s built-in AI and TEKAI?

SAP’s FP 2608 AI is in-product assistance: it helps you inside the Web Client. TEKAI is a native MCP server that connects your live SAP Business One data to the AI tools your team already uses — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Microsoft Copilot — for querying, transacting and automating from outside the client. They complement each other rather than compete.

Is FP 2608 required for AI features?

For SAP’s own Ask AI and AI query generation, yes — they ship with FP 2608 and need the Web Client. TEKAI does not require FP 2608: it connects to your existing SAP Business One system on SQL or HANA with no reimplementation.
